Foxton Locks and Harringworth

My hubby and I like to go walking and visiting places we've never been before. This weekend, we've been exploring places near to home.

On Friday night, we went for a walk in a local village called Harringworth. The backdrop to the village is a Grade II listed viaduct that has 82 arches, stretches 1,275 yards and at its maximum height is 80ft high.

It's amazing to see and I highly recommend it!

On the Sunday we went for a walk around Foxton Locks. For those that have never heard of it, (and until Sunday I hadn't!), it's a staircase of 10 locks, located near Market Harborough.

Apart from paying £2 for parking, it was free to enjoy. You can eat at the Foxton Locks Inn (located at the bottom of the staircase), buy snacks at the top lock or take a picnic. I was shocked that something so amazing was on my doorstep.

For those who grew up watching Rosie and Jim, it was great to see riverboats in person!

We walked up around the locks, stopped for a cup of tea at the top lock and enjoyed learning about the history of the locks too.

Although it was windy, it was a beautiful day. We  only spent a few hours there walking about, but you can easily spend all day there.  We will definitely be going back!

  2. Grandad told me about Foxton Locks. He really liked it there. We took our children there, it was great. You can imagine the discussion between John and Robert about how it all works. I'm glad you have discovered it too. Xx
