Over the course of the next 9 months, Mikey is trying to complete the National Trust's 50 Things To Do Before You're 11 and 3/4 challenge.
After Mikey was given a butterfly garden from his Nana, he sent off for caterpillars and been caring for them in their little jar.
On Friday, we moved them into the Butterfly Garden as they had all become chrysalides. We had to be really gentle while moving the thin piece of paper and pinning it to the side of the Butterfly Garden.
All was quiet over the weekend and after reading that it usually takes a week or so for them to hatch, we expected a quiet week too.
To our surprise,on Monday after Mikey had gone to school, 3 of the butterflies hatched and then later on in the day, the other 2 hatched.
Although it was good for Mikey to see how they grow from caterpillars to butterflies, it was weird having them flutter in the corner of the living room!
It was amazing to be able to see them up close. After a few days of looking after them, he and his dad released them into the garden.
So far in the National Trust challenge, Mikey has now completed number 18. Only 32 left to go before March 2016!
Last time I wrote about the pumpkins, Dot's seedlings had died but Mikey was going to give one of his plants as 2 had grown in his pot.
However, one morning last week as I was going to hang the washing out, I noticed that there was a seedling growing in Dot's pot.....a new pumpkin!
The race between the children is back on!
