Worrying.....is it natural?

Tuesday, 24 February 2015

This week I've been really thinking about worrying.
My husband says that I worry about everything too much and it's true, I do. I worry about having time to do the all the housework, or I worry about what to make for dinner for the week.

But as a parent I worry on a completely different scale.

I've always been told to follow my instincts when it comes to parenting, and I do, but as soon I've seen a health visitor, read an article on parenting, or hear a news item of a new study that's been done, I seem to ignore all my instincts as a mum and worry.

It's not even worrying about things I can't control. (Which I still do!) I'll worry that the kids will be too cold outside even with their hat, coat and gloves on.  Or, I'll worry that my son will trip and fall. - this is something I worry about every time I see him running off to play football in the playground.

Last night was Dot's first night in her cot in her own room. She did fantastically, and she slept right through, but I barely slept. Now both bedroom doors were open and I had a baby monitor, but I was so concerned with what could happen, I couldn't let myself sleep.

Now my question is this....is this natural? I know that every parent worries, but is it normal to worry this much? And if it is, does the worry ever subside?!

I know, worrying goes to another level with children! Many, many years of it too!
