Family Challenges- Update

Tuesday, 16 June 2015

Not so long ago I told you about the challenges that our family were undertaking. Here are some updates!

Great Pumpkin Challenge

A few weeks ago I wrote about how a pumpkin growing competition between my children. (you can view it here)
Now, Dorothy is only a baby, so I'm competing for her and after the first week, the girls were winning:
Mikey's is on the left, Dorothy's is on the right
However, two weeks later, here are the results:

Mikey's is on the left, Dorothy's is on the right
Both sets of pumpkins have been looked after in the same way, but Dorothy's pumpkin died :(

Despite this setback, Mikey has very kindly offered to give one of his growing pumpkin plants to Dorothy when they are planted in the garden so that the competition can continue. Bless him!

National Trust: 50 things to do before you're 11 and 3/4

As Mikey turns 11 next month, we thought it'd be great fun to try and check off the National Trust's checklist of '50 things to do before you're 11 3/4' . (You can read about it here
So far, we've checked off 17 activities, and are working our way through them.
Hopefully, we will soon be checking off number 18, 'Bring up a butterfly' as my mum bought Mikey a kit to hatch your own butterflies!

You send off for some caterpillars (a gift certificate is inside the box) and then when they arrive, you can get to work by caring for them and eventually they will grow in to beautiful butterflies!

The butterflies are on their way, so very soon we will be feeding tiny caterpillars! I think I'm more excited to see them grow than Mikey is!

Watch this space for more updates!

  1. That butterfly kit looks like fun :) I LOVE butterflies...but caterpillars freak me out a little bit...especially if they look hairy!!
