Santa Fun Run

Monday, 14 December 2015

Yesterday, Mikey, his Dad and his two uncles took part in the local Santa Fun Run to raise money for charity.

Dad, Uncle Ian, Uncle Tony and Mikey

Mikey had chosen two charities to raise money for; a local charity called Anna's Hope, which raises money for children with brain tumours; and a charity close to his heart, Asthma UK.

Mikey has suffered from asthma since he was a baby and wanted to show that it doesn't have to stop you doing anything, especially one of his great loves, running.

My brothers and husband were (surprisingly!) up for it and happily joined him in dressing up as Santa and running 5K!

For anyone who hasn't been to a Santa fun run, it's a very odd thing to see hundreds of Santas all wandering around a park!

After pinning numbers on, the team of four, who called themselves "Cool Runnings" went off to join in the Santa warm up.

After the warm up came the run itself. There were over 800 people running yesterday, so it was hard to see the boys to begin with, but luckily, my dad managed to catch them as they crossed the line for the first time!

Very quickly, Burghley Park was covered in Santas and it was pretty amusing seeing them all running in the distance!

Cheering the them on as they went round, it didn't seem very long before the boys ran their 3 laps, and although they were exhausted and covered with mud, they all had a smile on their face when they finished.

Mikey had an overall target of £50, and definitely exceeded it! Altogether, Mikey raised £175, with £90 going to Asthma UK. We're all really proud of him!

It was a brilliant morning and although it was very cold and spitting with rain, it didn't really matter. Everyone had fun. What the boys don't know though is Mikey wants to do it again next year!
Keep Calm and Carry On Linking Sunday
