Taking a step back

Monday, 29 August 2016

Life has a way of getting so busy that sometimes you feel like you don't have time to take a breath. As a mum, that is par for the course, but I also have a tendancy of taking on extra projects.

I've been writing Dot Makes 4 for nearly 18 months, but I have recently become an Independent Usborne Organiser, my husband's unofficial secretary for his football coaching and for the local football club's supporters club.

The problem is not only that I throw myself fully into every project, but that I don't like to let anyone one down, so I keep taking on things and I don't like to say 'no'!

It's been a decision that I really had to think about as I love doing all these things, but if I didn't take a step back, I'll go potty (although if you ask anyone who knows me, I always have been!)

So, after discussing it with Mark, I've decided to take a bit of a step back from everything, for example, I am still my husband's secretary for his coaching and the supporters club, but I will no longer attend the football matches for a while.

But, don't panic! I will continue to write Dot Makes 4. I found myself trying to keep up with others, writing and tweeting and so on everyday, but I just can't. I will try to write once a week, but apologies if I don't!

Since making a decision, I finally feel like a weight has been lifted. I've now realised that saying 'no' and taking time for yourself isn't actually a bad thing.

  1. Hi, I am a complete newbie to the crazy world of blogging, and it definitely feels overwhelming at the moment! I run my own business and take care of a very energetic 2 year old, so time is something I don't have a lot of. I am enjoying blogging at the moment, I find it very therapeutic, but don't want it to feel like a chore! You sound like you've definitely made the right decision to take a step back x #SharingtheBlogLove

  2. I'm so pleased you've decided to keep on with the blog - I'd miss your posts! It sounds like taking a step back is the right move - once a week sounds fine to me, loads of big bloggers only post once a week, so if it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for us too! Thanks so much for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove - we'd love to see you next time, but no pressure!

  3. It sounds like you have made some good decisions to make life more manageable for you. I am pleased you are keeping your blog, it's good to have a place to come to when you have something to say. The great thing about blogging is there are no rules, its all yours to do what you want, when you want! Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x

  4. Good post, love this sharing so much, thank you!
