Codenames: Top Secret Word Game

Monday, 15 January 2018

Happy January everyone! Welcome to another Board Game Bloggers Club review :) Today, I wanted to share with you a game called Codenames.

An award winning game, Codenames is a card game of word association, deduction and team play. The object of the game is to make contact and find all of your spies before the opposing team. You are given one-word clues that help point to multiple spies on the grid. Your job is to identify all of your spies while also avoiding those that belong to the enemy.

Codenames can be played in teams with at least four players, but can also be played with two or three, with the players working on the same team, which is how we played it. I gave Mikey clues to help him guess which agents were our teams.

I really liked this game. Mikey found this a bit hard to begin with, but he got there after a few games! He enjoyed being the spymaster more than a field operative who had to guess the codenames from the clues I gave him! I think that this is a game we will be playing more and more as he gets older.

Codenames is suitable for 2 to 8+ players, aged 14 years and over. It is available to buy on Amazon retailing for £16.99, although it is on offer at the moment. Happy playing!

Disclaimer: We were sent Codenames in return for our honest opinion. As always, our opinions are our own.
